La Comisión Europea ha multado hoy a las empresas japonesas Sanyo, Panasonic y Sony con 166 millones de euros por pactar precios e intercambiar información en el mercado de las baterías de litio recargables, que alimentan dispositivos electrónicos como portátiles y teléfonos móviles.

Lithium-Sulfur Batteries Overcome Another Limitation: High Temperatures.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have been pursued as an alternative to lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for powering electric vehicles due to their ability to hold up to four times as much energy per unit mass as Li-ion. However, Li-S batteries don’t come without some problems. For instance, the sulfur in the electrode can become depleted after just a few charge-discharge cycles, or polysulfides can pass through the cathode and foul the electrolyte.

La petrolera francesa Total ha presentado una oferta amistosa de compra por el 100% del capital de Saft que valora a la empresa en 950 millones de euros tras alcanzar un acuerdo con el fabricante de baterías, informaron ambas firmas en un comunicado.

En concreto, la oferta de Total, que ha recibido el respaldo unánime del consejo de supervisión de Saft, contempla el pago de 36,50 euros por acción, lo que supone una prima del 38,3% sobre el precio de cierre del pasado viernes.

Asimismo, la oferta de Total valora Saft en nueve veces su resultado bruto de explotación (Ebitda) de 2015, lo que "representa una significativa prima de control en comparación con recientes múltiplos de valoración en la industria de baterías".

A new Seattle materials company is developing a technology that could boost lithium ion battery energy density by up to 30 percent, it claims, while also reducing costs.

Group14 Technologies is a new spin-out from EnerG2, the 13-year-old Seattle materials company that has a growing business providing engineered carbon materials for other energy storage technologies, including ultra-capacitors and lead-acid batteries.

An environment friendly battery made from waste material, that can work continuously for 72 hours with no electricity required for its charging, has been developed by a private educational institute.

The 'Fly Ash Battery' developed by Amity University is a novel ash and activated carbon based battery comprising of aluminum anode and amorphous carbon with graphite.

Dr W Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation stated that the battery is a revolutionary technology which could work continuously for 72 hours and generate 0.85 volt voltage and 100mA current density for a single cell.
