Yesterday, at an event called the Jolicloud Ecosystem Party, the company presented its long-term vision for the company. It also gave everyone a sneak peek at Jolicloud 2, a step forward in the company’s ultimate goal to build the only platform you need to simplify and centralize your life on the web.

Israel’s Nativeflow nabs $7.5M to protect work data on personal devices.

Startups have long been transfixed with finding a better way to safeguard corporate data on personal devices.

The newcomer to the mobile security space is Nativeflow, an Israeli company formed by veteran technology entrepreneurs Avi Yehuda and Eitan Bauch. Nativeflow’s founders exclusively revealed to VentureBeat that it has raised $7.5 million in funding from Jerusalem Venture Partners and OurCrowd.

With half the Fortune 500 as customers, social analytics firm Socialbakers gets $26M.

After only a few years in the social media analytics game, Socialbakers is rolling in funding.

The company announced today that it has raised an additional $26 million in a third round of funding led by Index Ventures. That brings Socialbaker’s total funding to around $34 million.

Socialbakers unveiled its social media analytics product at the DEMO conference in 2011 (which was co-run by VentureBeat) — though it was initially founded in 2008 as a social media agency.

Plant-Based Food Startup Hampton Creek Foods Raises $23M Round Led By Horizons Ventures.

It looks like investors think there’s a big opportunity in Hampton Creek Foods‘ mission of creating tasty, affordable alternatives to animal-based foods — the company is announcing that it has raised $23 million in Series B funding.

The round was led by Hong Kong businessman Li Ka-shing’s investment firm Horizons Ventures, with participation from Jerry Yang and AME Cloud Ventures, Ali and Hadi Partovi, Jessica Powell of Google, Scott Banister, and Ash Patel. Previous backers Khosla Ventures, Collaborative Fund, and Kat Taylor and Tom Steyers’ Eagle Cliff also invested in the new round.

Alibaba & others sink $100M into Asia’s language-learning service TutorGroup.

Online education provider TutorGroup has closed a massive $100 million in second round funding from Asia-based investors.

VentureBeat has exclusively learned that online shopping juggernaut Alibaba, Temasek and Qiming Venture Partners participated in the round. The company strategically raised its funds from investors in China and Singapore, as it’s building a strong brand in the region. Most of the TutorGroup offices are spread across Asia, although the company has a research and development group based in Silicon Valley.

Declining Business Dynamism in the U.S. High-Technology Sector.

A new white paper from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation shows sustained declines in business dynamism across a wide swath of the U.S. economy, including the high-tech sector that has been critical for sparking economic growth in recent decades.

The report found indicators of sluggish high-tech entrepreneurship and business dynamism after 2000. The slowdown was particularly evident in the declining trends of both job creation and job destruction from about 2004 onward. Taken together, job creation and job destruction are indicators of the business churning associated with dynamic economic activity.

The Foundation unveiled a new initiative geared toward fostering a more broad-based entrepreneurial economy at its fifth annual State of Entrepreneurship Address.

Today at the Palais des Congrès, Microsoft held its first demo day in front of investors and journalists.
