Last December, Omada Health raised $800K in seed funding from a host of angel and venture investors, including NEA, Aberdare, Kapor Capital, TriplePoint Ventures and Esther Dyson — to name a few. A graduate of Rock Health’s first batch, the startup started out on a mission to take on diabetes (and prediabetes) by leveraging the latest research, design, behavioral science and digital technology.

En concreto, se estima que el gasto directo (asistencia médica, quirúrgica, rehabilitación...) de estos accidentes se eleva a más de 380 millones de euros para la sanidad, cifra a la que se suman cerca de 43 millones derivados de costes indirectos que asumen los familiares: ausencias laborales, contratación de cuidadores, ayudas ortopédica.
Nurses spend lots of time doing what seems like busywork—logging into computers, pulling up patient files, entering details of what they did, and coordinating their duties with others. Researchers at Xerox are developing what they call the Digital Nurse Assistant to automate and simplify some of this work. The project is part of a broader trend to adapt information technology to the health-care system to make it more efficient and cost-effective.
“Its craziness, because the technology solutions are out there. We just haven’t integrated them into our systems. We are running on old technology,” says Carol Bickford, a health IT expert and senior policy fellow at the American Nurses Association.

What is personalised healthcare? A methodology – enabled by modern genetic, biopharma, diagnostic and ICT technologies that attempts to tailor the treatment to the individual patient. Rather than one-pill-fits-all, doctors use growing knowledge of the human genome, and of other biomarkers of health and disease, to offer targeted prevention measures and to optimise treatment strategies. No one is suggesting treatment is not alr eady personal, in that healthcare professionals make an assessment of each patient before deciding how to treat them. But the tools of personalised healthcare provide deeper insights and allow treatments to be more finely honed to individual needs.
The report, "Valuing Health Care: Improving Productivity and Quality," is based on the recommendations of 31 experts from related fields, whom the Kauffman Foundation convened to reframe thinking around the question, "How can the productivity and value of American health care be increased, in both the short-term and long-term?"
While acknowledging that there's no shortage of reports and recommendations for health care reform, the task force took a unique approach to tackling health care value and productivity challenges.
