Practice Fusion Continues To Reach Beyond Digital Health Records, Adds Free Expense Tracking To New Booking Engine

Practice Fusion has made a name for itself over the past few years by tapping into enormous demand for digital health information — particularly health records. Traffic pollution, noise linked to heart diseases: Study

Exposure to traffic pollution and noise can in the long run lead to atherosclerosis, according to a German study which for the first time explored the links between the two.

The study, which was based on data from the German Heinz Nixdorf Recall Study, calculated the long-term exposure to particle pollutants of 4,814 participants who live nearby roads with high traffic volume.

The results were presented at a European Society for Cardiology event in Rome on Thursday (18 April).

A simple test to screen for hospital bugs

Turku-based Abacus Diagnostica has developed GenomEra CDX™, a system for hospitals and health care services that uses DNA technology to diagnose infectious diseases.

”Hospital-acquired infections, or so-called hospital bugs, increase the morbidity and mortality rates in patients of various health care units. Our fast and easy-to-use platform reliably identifies bacteria causing hospital infections, including MRSA”, explains Tom Palenius, CEO of Abacus Diagnostica.

The system relies on technology developed in the University of Turku and consists of an automatic analyser and tests that can be run on it. Introducing this simple platform requires no additional training in health care units.

The members of the startups for the most part have increasingly more industry experience and seem more adept at finding pain points and delivering a workable solution to members of the healthcare ecosystem. And if the successes of Blueprint Health’s latest graduating class are anything to go by, healthcare companies are getting increasingly receptive to working with startups that can help them address some of the demands of the Affordable Care Act and some of its impacts with more innovative solutions.

The report, Solving the talent equation for health IT, finds that the healthcare industry is vying for a limited number of IT professionals - and many companies are scrambling to fill the talent void by recruiting technology specialists from other industries.

6 healthcare IT investment opportunities and trends for angels and startups.

Many of the changes in the healthcare industry outlined by the Affordable Care Act and HITECH Act call for shifting to healthcare IT for helping physician practices run more efficiently to helping guide clinical outcomes. But the shift from paper based to digital records isn’t just happening among providers. It is carrying over into other industries that healthcare intersects such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices and more robust collaborations with payers.
