SARS-CoV-2 immune evasion by the B.1.427/B.1.429 variant of concern

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by SARS-CoV-2 and is associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), as well as extra-pulmonary complications such as vascular thrombosis, coagulopathy, and a hyperinflammatory syndrome contributing to disease severity and mortality.

Bioinspired Fabrication of Strong Self-Standing Egg-Sugarcane Cathodes for Rechargeable Lithium–Oxygen Batteries

Lithium–oxygen (Li–O2) batteries have attracted considerable attention due to their high theoretical energy density. However nonrenewable and high-cost electrode materials have limited their progress. Herein, the authors design and fabricate a three-dimensional freestanding bi-biomass egg-sugarcane (Egg-SC) electrode with excellent structure and performance as the cathode for Li–O2 batteries. The open, interconnected microchannels derived from the natural SC can provide sufficient pathways for O2 gas diffusion.

ThyssenKrupp Leading German Steel Industry to Climate Neutrality

German Federal Environment Minister Ms Svenja Schulze visited thyssenkrupp Steel’s steel mill in Duisburg during her summer tour to learn on site about the plans of Germany‘s largest steel producer to make its production operations completely climate-neutral, and invited the company to submit a funding request for a direct reduction plant within the scope of the BMU’s Funding Program Decarbonization. An initial project outline had previously met with a positive response from the German Federal Environment Agency and the Kompetenzzentrum Klimaschutz in energieintensiven Industrien.

Gonvarri’s Solar Steel to Supply TracSmarT+ to Iberdrola Solar

Spanish Gonvarri Industries industrial division Solar Steel will supply 100MWp of its single axis tracker TracSmart+ 1V to Iberdrola for two PV projects located in Burgos and Salamanca in Spain. Both solar plants will generate enough electricity to supply about 49,000 households boosting the local employment generation in Castilla y Leon.

Solar Steel has 1GW+ backlog of its TracSmarT+ 1V tracker and an existing 12GW+ global track record.

EVs will be cheaper than petrol cars in all segments by 2027, BNEF analysis finds

Electric cars and vans will be cheaper to make than fossil-fuel vehicles in every light vehicle segment across Europe from 2027 at the latest, according to a new BloombergNEF study commissioned by Transport & Environment (T&E). The research found that battery electric vehicles could reach 100% of new sales across the EU by 2035, if lawmakers introduce measures like tighter vehicle CO2 targets and strong support for charging infrastructure.
