On the Road: New Natural Gas Fueling System Keeps Cars, Trucks Rolling

The energy expert and MacArthur “genius” Fellow Amory B. Lovins says that if we switched all heavy trucks from diesel to natural gas, it would be “the most important non-automotive way to get the nation off oil by 2050.” Lovins believes that the switch would result in saving close to a fifth of all U.S. oil used today.

Declaration of Independence: A new CNG fueling system from GE will make natural gas available to anyone keen to drop oil.

Industrial Internet: Reinventing the Industrial Revolution

There is a difference between book smarts and street smarts. The same applies to data. You can measure every action, gather gigabytes of information, but gain little knowledge. “Big Data is not just that there is value within, but rather there are connections to be made to make Big Data more proactive and predictive – or making information more intelligent,” says Bill Ruh, GE vice president and global technology director.

Moonstruck: GE Engineers Tap Moon’s Gravity to Generate Power

Phill Scott does not wax romantic about the moon. Where others see mystery or madness, he ponders megawatts. Twice a day, like clockwork, the moon’s gravity makes the seas ebb and flow. For Scott, a business manager at GE Power Conversion, the tides are the perfect source of renewable energy, more predictable and reliable than wind or solar power. “Some tides off the coast of U.K. clock in at seven meters per second,” he says. “It’s a force of nature begging to be leveraged.”

Unlocking the value of Personalised Healthcare in Europe

What is personalised healthcare? A methodology – enabled by modern genetic, biopharma, diagnostic and ICT technologies that attempts to tailor the treatment to the individual patient. Rather than one-pill-fits-all, doctors use growing knowledge of the human genome, and of other biomarkers of health and disease, to offer targeted prevention measures and to optimise treatment strategies. No one is suggesting treatment is not alr eady personal, in that healthcare professionals make an assessment of each patient before deciding how to treat them. But the tools of personalised healthcare provide deeper insights and allow treatments to be more finely honed to individual needs.
