3D Printing: Who are the Next M&A Targets for 3D Systems?

M&A activity within the 3D printing space is heating up – not because of a flock of different buyers but primarily because of one: South Carolina-based 3D Systems, a NYSE-listed (ticker: DDD | market cap: $4.3B) provider of 3D content-to-print products including printers and imaging software. In the past five years, 3D Systems has acquired at least privately-held 30 companies with 10 of those acquisitions coming in 2012 and 2013, including recently Rapid Product Development Group in May and Valhalla Partners-backed Geomagic in January.

Finnish Startup Rightware Closes $5.2M Series B To Drive Global Growth Of Its Embedded UI Creation Tool Business

Rightware, a Finnish startup that sells embedded user interface software and performance benchmarking tools to car makers and consumer electronics companies needing to build graphical user interfaces has announced it has closed a $5.2 million Series B round. Investors in the round include Inventure and Nexit Ventures, along with new investor Finnish Industry Investment.

Erasmus para Jóvenes Emprendedores 2009-2012

Hasta la fecha, se han organizado más de 1 600 intercambios en el marco del Programa Erasmus para Jóvenes Emprendedores y se han creado o se han expandido unas 3 200 empresas (incluidas numerosas empresas conjuntas y nuevas relaciones transfronterizas, véase el MEMO/13/412).

Wind Turbines, Battery Included, Can Keep Power Supplies Stable

GE recently sold the first of a new line of “hybrid” wind turbines that comes with a battery attached. The turbine’s battery can store the equivalent of less than one minute of the turbine operating at full power. But, by pairing the battery with advanced wind-forecasting algorithms, wind farm operators could guarantee a certain amount of power output for up to an hour.

This could make integrating intermittent renewable energy far easier, and lower the cost of wind power. Indeed, even relatively small batteries could double the amount of renewable energy the power grid can handle.
