Oracle’s reported $5B acquisition of Micros firms up its reach into the hospitality industry

Oracle has reportedly set its sights on another company that could diversify its product lineup, with more hardware, interestingly.

The legacy database giant is close to paying more than $5 billion for publicly traded Micros Systems, which sells hardware and software for use in hotels, restaurants, stores, and back-office facilities, Bloomberg reported today.

Oracle did not immediately respond to VentureBeat’s request for comment.

Oracle buying Corente to quickly connect data centers through software.

Oracle today revealed plans to bolster its networking portfolio by buying Corente, a company that has developed software for programming network resources between data centers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it should close later this year.

Corente lets businesses control aspects of their networks through a single software interface rather than forcing administrators to manually set configurations on individual pieces of hardware.

Oracle wants to use that technology to help customers set up networks fast.
