BMW Says New Gen 6 Batteries Provide 30% More Range, Cost 50% Less

With the launch of its Neue Klasse platform and series of electric models, BMW will also introduce its Gen 6 battery technology, which brings significant improvements in all areas that matter. The manufacturer is touting 30 percent improved range, 50 percent reduction of production cost and 60 percent reduction in carbon emissions, as well as an integration of the battery pack as a part of the car’s structure.

Volkswagen Delays Decision On Eastern Europe Battery Gigafactory

Volkswagen Group has announced it is postponing its decision on where to build a planned battery cell gigafactory in eastern Europe beyond 2022.

The automaker cited economic uncertainty and high energy prices when making the announcement on December 8. In a statement to Reuters, the company said it is still evaluating sites for its future battery gigafactory.

Hyundai Motor Group And SK On Select Site For Its Battery JV In Georgia

Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) and SK On (SK Innovation's lithium-ion battery subsidiary branch) announced that their new EV battery manufacturing facility will be built in Bartow County, Georgia.

The details of the partnership are still in development (MOU was announced in late November), but it's already known that the two South Korean companies intend to invest approximately $4-5 billion, which indicates a large battery factory.

Subtle biases in AI can influence emergency decisions

It’s no secret that people harbor biases — some unconscious, perhaps, and others painfully overt. The average person might suppose that computers — machines typically made of plastic, steel, glass, silicon, and various metals — are free of prejudice. While that assumption may hold for computer hardware, the same is not always true for computer software, which is programmed by fallible humans and can be fed data that is, itself, compromised in certain respects.
