With the launch of its Neue Klasse platform and series of electric models, BMW will also introduce its Gen 6 battery technology, which brings significant improvements in all areas that matter. The manufacturer is touting 30 percent improved range, 50 percent reduction of production cost and 60 percent reduction in carbon emissions, as well as an integration of the battery pack as a part of the car’s structure.
The BMW Group is building a high-voltage battery assembly for the vehicles of the NEUE KLASSE at its site in Hungary. The battery assembly will be located on the site of the Debrecen vehicle plant, which started construction about six months ago. The company will create more than 500 additional jobs and invest over two billion euros in the construction and launch of the entire plant by the end of 2025.
The automotive industry is gradually entering the electric era and companies are futureproofing their lineups with a wide array of EVs. The BMW Group is taking the same path with its Neue Klasse platform that will be inaugurated in 2025 at the newly erected Debrecen plant, with Munich to follow suit in 2026. Across the pond, a massive investment of $1.7 billion announced today will bring the production of NE-based models to North America.
