China’s Gotion High-tech on May 17 unveiled a Tesla-like yet cheaper cylindrical battery as well as a more common prismatic battery with ultra-fast charging among its latest products.
The Chinese battery cell manufacturer and Volkswagen partner Gotion High-Tech is planning two new factories to further expand its production capacities in China. This involves both LFP cells, in which Gotion specializes – but also NMC batteries.
A new plant in Hefei, the capital of China’s Anhui province, is to offer a production capacity of 20 GWh per year for NMC batteries. In addition to cell production, Gotion also plans to ramp up battery module and pack assembly there as part of its total investment of 6.7 billion yuan (about 920 million euros).
