A smart cuff may be able to save your life by alerting you when you’re at a high risk of a heart attack or stroke.
The cuff, which is being developed by iHealth in partnership with top cardiologists at the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, is about to enter into a testing phase. iHealth specializes in consumer products, but regularly partners with clinical researchers and hospitals to develop more sophisticated patient monitoring devices.

If you only focus on the multi-billion dollar valuations of young companies like Pinterest, Uber and Snapchat, you might assume 2013 has been a very good year for tech startups. In reality, it has been more of a bittersweet year.
FlyCleaners, a startup that picks up your laundry, cleans it, and drops it off on-demand, is announcing that it has raised about $2 million in seed funding from Zelkova Ventures and undisclosed angel investors.
There are a number of variations on the “Uber for laundry” idea already on the market, including Wash.io and Prim. As far as I know, all of them are limited geographically (FlyCleaners is only available in North Brooklyn), but I assume they all have hopes for expansion.
When I asked how FlyCleaners is different, CEO David Salama told me via email:
