U.S. Manufacturing Nears the Tipping Point: Which Industries, Why, and How Much?

Seven groups of industries are nearing the point at which rising costs in China could prompt more companies to shift the manufacture of many goods consumed in the U.S. back to the U.S. Combined with an increase in U.S. exports, this shift could create 2 million to 3 million jobs and add around $100 billion in annual output to the U.S. economy. Companies need to weigh not only their costs today but also the economic trends influencing total future costs. The labor content and logistics costs of a given product will have a determining influence on the optimal manufacturing location. Companies must also weigh projected productivity differences, the challenge of extended supply chains, and the high risk of cost volatility in China when considering their investments. The Flow of U.S. Manufacturing Jobs Now Goes Both Ways.

Over the past four years, companies have created more than 80,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S. by moving production to America from abroad, according to a Wall Street Journal report that cites figures from the nonprofit Reshoring Initiative. The U.S. continues to lose manufacturing jobs to offshore plants, but those losses are now being offset by inflows. An example is Whirlpool, which is moving some of its washing-machine production to a plant in Clyde, Ohio, from one in Monterrey, Mexico, mainly to take advantage of lower energy and product-transportation costs.

200 ekintzaile bilduko dira elikaduraren eta gastronomiaren sektoreko ekintzaileentzako Lehen Nazioarteko Foroan.

Hitzordua otsailaren 3an eta 4an izango da Basque Culinary Centerren, eta nazioko nahiz nazioarteko ekintzaile ospetsuek eskainitako hitzaldien eta tailer praktikoen bidez egituratuko da.

Den-denok ohartzen gara elikaduraren sektorea enpresa-jardueraren sektore garrantzitsua dela eta herrialde baten ekonomiaren adierazle handiak mugiarazteko gaitasuna duela. Negozio horrek hainbat eta hainbat jarduera garatzeko aukera eskaintzen duten azpisektore ugari ditu, eta horietako batzuk, ziurrenik, oraindik deskubritu gabe daude.

Three words sum up 3D printing in 2013: Money, money, money.

If 2012 was the year that 3D printing expanded and found its dark side, 2013 was the year that it found its sugar daddy.

Between big-bill acquisitions, surging stock prices, and major interest from investors, this was a year of financial success for the industry. Newbies entered the market, big companies got bigger, and some of the word’s biggest brands finally got interested.

So you might say this was a pretty successful year for 3D printing — not just as a technology but also as a bona fide, near-mainstream industry. Here are a few of the bigger financial highlights.
