The Most Active Venture Capital and Corporate Investors in the Internet of Things.

Corporate venture investors lead the way in terms of Internet of Things deal activity with Intel Capital, Qualcomm Ventures and Cisco Investments taking 3 of the top 4 spots. The lone pure-play VC in the top IoT investors is True Ventures.

Google’s $3.2 billion acquisition of smart thermostat startup Nest Labs should increase the intensity of interest in the home automation space and the broader Internet of Things market.

What will fuel digital health M&A in 2014?

The approaching March deadline for individuals to enroll in a health insurance plan is a useful reminder that provisions of Obamacare will continue to roll out this year. The Affordable Care Act and related legislation are putting a huge demand on the health system, from accelerating the shift to electronic medical records to creating a need for more efficient communication tools between physician offices, patients and insurers. A handful of industry insiders offers a glimpse of the kind of targets that will shift into focus in 2014 and the groups that will be looking to buy them.

CES 2014: 'Mobile, mobile, mobile'

From wearable technologies that track back posture, blood pressure and brain waves to connected cars and homes, the 152,000 attendees at this year's Consumer Electronics Show were treated to some of the most innovative wireless technologies global innovation has to offer. So dazzling and ubiquitous were the wireless innovations not just on display --but in use-- that the event easily could have been rebranded as the Consumer Mobile Show.

Google plus Nest: Imagine the possibilities.

Google’s huge $3.2 billion purchase of Nest can boost the giant company’s existing products and services right away, not to mention Nest’s expansion. But the most exciting aspects of the deal come when you think about where Google could be going in the long-term.

Nest could be just a starting point for more capable applications and new ones as well, but more importantly Google can make itself into a hub for the widening Internet of things (the movement to put sensors and connect everyday household items to the web) and possibly an even smarter dispenser of advertisements based on your data.

Investors knight Nutanix as new hardware superstar with $101M round.

Top enterprise-focused investors have selected a new darling: Nutanix, a company that makes boxes that combine servers and storage.

Today Nutanix pulled the cover off a seriously large $101 million investment.

Nutanix stuffs fast flash drives, reliable disk drives, and basic servers into a single box, taking inspiration from web properties operating at giant scale, like Amazon.com, Facebook, and Google. But the company isn’t dead-set on getting such companies on its customer list; it concentrates more on signing up staid enterprises. So the news of Nutanix’s big funding could be interpreted as a confirmation that enterprises still take out their wallets for hardware for their own data centers.
