Venture capital funding to startups providing data analytics solutions for the healthcare sector has jumped over 100% YoY. Prominent VCs including Kleiner Perkins, Khosla Ventures and Sequoia Capital have jumped in the mix as big data gets verticalized.
As the healthcare IT market grows, venture capital investors are getting increasingly bullish on startups specializing in verticalized predictive and prescriptive data and analytics solutions for the healthcare sector.

And soon, you might be able to point them to open social networking.
Software-defined networking, or SDN, grew in large part out of research done at Stanford, led by professor Nick McKeown and a group of colleagues and graduate students, called the Programmable Open Mobile Internet 2020 (POMI) project.
French startup Sigfox raised a Series B round of $20.6 million (€15 million) from IDInvest and BPIFrance. Existing investors (Elaia Partners, Partech Ventures, Ixo and Intel Capital) also participated. As a reminder, Sigfox wants to create an alternative cellular network specifically dedicated to connected objects.
Compared to traditional cellular networks, this network can cover a larger area and is very energy-efficient. Previously, the startup had raised $2.8 million (€2 million) and $13.7 million (€10 million).

Sprig, a food delivery service that brings healthy, inexpensive meals to San Francisco residents’ doors, has raised $10 million in Series A funding from Greylock Partners with Battery Ventures and Accel participating. The European Commission's environment directorate is pushing hard for a binding target to increase Europe’s resource efficiency 30% by 2030 as part of a waste review due to be published in May, EurActiv has learned.
The move, which would be accompanied by a policy paper about the circular economy, will be stoutly opposed by other Commission directorates and states such as the UK concerned about short-term costs to industry.
