Bindo Raises $1.8M To Help Small Brick-And-Mortar Stores Go Online.

The growth of e-commerce behemoths like Amazon and the convenience they offer to shoppers have been especially hard on local brick-and-mortar stores. A startup called Bindo wants to reverse that trend. Headquartered in New York City with offices in Hong Kong, Bindo has created an iPad point-of-sale system that integrates with its cloud-based payment platform for small merchants, with the goal of making it easy for customers to shop online for products carried by stores in their own neighborhoods.

Today the company announced that it has closed a seed round of $1.8 million, co-led by Gary Vaynerchuk, East Ventures, and Metamorphic Venturess.

CENTR Cam Is A GoPro Competitor That Captures Everything Around You

While smartphones have decimated the point-and-shoot camera market, the emergence of GoPro as a $1 billion company has shown that there’s still an audience willing to pay for a device that can take great footage at big events or during outdoor activities like hiking or snowboarding. But for most people, a $200+ camera is overkill when smartphones are increasingly capable of taking great low-light photos and image-stabilized video.

Samsung wants ‘SAMI’ and ‘Simband’ to be the start of a new biohealth ecosystem.

Samsung laid out its framework today for a new consumer-centered biohealth ecosystem, featuring a new sensor-filled watch (“Simband”) and a cloud platform for storing health data collected by the device.

The ecosystem would be built around a platform called SAMI (Samsung Architecture Multimodal Interaction), which the tech giant says is designed to “sit between devices that collect data, and algorithms in the cloud that analyze that data.”

Samsung says SAMI is like the brain of the new ecosystem and that the more data that health devices collect and deposit there, the better the health insights that medical professionals can mine from it.

Meet iBario: The Israeli Internet Empire That You Probably Never Heard Of.

Israel’s iBario is a web conglomerate that, over seven years, has grown to be one of the world’s biggest Internet marketing companies, building a top-tier downloading platform, shopping site, recipe site, Internet speed measuring site, question and answer information site and reaching one of Google’s biggest advertising partners, becoming the target of jealousy from other sites which can’t accomplish even one of these tasks.

Israeli discovery could reverse Alzheimer’s damage.

Research by a Tel Aviv University team may point the way to protecting cells from the damage wrought by Alzheimer’s disease, and even reverse damage that the disease caused before treatment. The method involves a protein similar to one which protects the brain from damage, but which is lacking in Alzheimer’s patients.

What causes Alzheimer’s is still a mystery, but the direct physical conditions leading to the dementia associated with the disease are very clear to scientists. Plaque accumulations and tangles in neurons kill brain cells in Alzheimer’s sufferers, leading to the degeneration of cognitive function and the loss of memory associated with the disease.
