While smartphones have decimated the point-and-shoot camera market, the emergence of GoPro as a $1 billion company has shown that there’s still an audience willing to pay for a device that can take great footage at big events or during outdoor activities like hiking or snowboarding. But for most people, a $200+ camera is overkill when smartphones are increasingly capable of taking great low-light photos and image-stabilized video.

A pair of trucks convoying 10 meters apart on Interstate 80 just outside Reno, Nevada, might seem like an unusual sight—not to mention unsafe. But the two trucks doing this a couple of weeks ago were actually demonstrating a system that could make trucking safer and much more efficient.

Samsung laid out its framework today for a new consumer-centered biohealth ecosystem, featuring a new sensor-filled watch (“Simband”) and a cloud platform for storing health data collected by the device.

The ecosystem would be built around a platform called SAMI (Samsung Architecture Multimodal Interaction), which the tech giant says is designed to “sit between devices that collect data, and algorithms in the cloud that analyze that data.”

Samsung says SAMI is like the brain of the new ecosystem and that the more data that health devices collect and deposit there, the better the health insights that medical professionals can mine from it.
