GE will partner with the innovative Southern California venture capital firm Frost Data Capital on a business incubator focused on machine data, predictive analytics and the Industrial Internet. “Frost is looking to incubate really big problems that drive revolutionary change,” says Bill Ruh, vice president of GE Software. “That’s how we found them.”
All else equal, a venture-capital-backed entrepreneur who starts a company that goes public has a 30 percent chance of succeeding in his or her next venture. First-time entrepreneurs, on the other hand, have only an 18 percent chance of succeeding, and entrepreneurs who previously failed have a 20 percent chance of succeeding. But why do these contrasts exist? Such performance persistence, as in the first example, is usually taken as evidence of skill. However, in the context of entrepreneurship, the belief that successful entrepreneurs are more skilled than unsuccessful ones can induce real performance persistence. In this way, success breeds success even if successful entrepreneurs were just lucky. Success breeds even more success if entrepreneurs have some skill.

En 2014, el subprograma «Acción por el Clima» del programa LIFE destinará 44,26 millones EUR a la concepción y puesta en práctica de soluciones innovadoras para responder al desafío del cambio climático en el conjunto de Europa.
El subprograma forma parte del programa LIFE 2014-2020 de la UE y destinará 864 millones EUR a la lucha contra el cambio climático a lo largo de los próximos siete años. Además, promoverá la comunicación, la cooperación y la difusión de información sobre las medidas de atenuación y de adaptación al cambio climático.

After much speculation, Google-owned Nest has officially acquired connected-camera company Dropcam.
The company announced the deal in a blog post today; it comes out to $555 million in cash, Re/code reported.
Dropcam will remain independent until the deal closes, and it will then proceed to integrate with Nest. From Nest founder and engineering head Matt Rogers’ blog post:
