Google and Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis announced this morning that they will be collaborating on bringing Google’s smart contact lens technology, which contains sensors for tracking things like blood glucose levels for diabetics, to consumers.
Google announced the smart lens project back in January, but at the time it was clear the company would need some sort of partner to make it a reality. The project came out of Google X, the skunkworks shop that also developed Google Glass and the company’s self-driving car initiative.

Home Depot is bringing a high-tech twist to its do-it-yourself wares.
The world’s largest home-improvement chain now sells 3D printers from MakerBot in a dozen of its stores across California, New York, and Illinois, MakerBot announced today.
The pilot program, as MakerBot describes it, includes kiosks in each store with trained representatives hosting regular demonstrations to educate shoppers about 3D-printing tech. The companies hope to attract the attention of builders, architects, designers, and general consumers, who can use the printers to produce replacement parts, product prototypes, architectural designs, and more, MakerBot said in a statement.
Comcast has acquired PowerCloud Systems, according to Tyson Marian, who works in Strategic Development at Comcast. The company is not disclosing any financial information related to the deal.
PowerCloud Systems builds web monitoring tools and analytics software, including Wi-Fi management system Skydog. Last week, Skydog noted on its website that it had been acquired but didn’t provide further details. Earlier this morning Tech Crunch surmised that Comcast bought the company in a bid to offer new services to its growing audience.
