Bright.md raises $1M for remote primary care platform.

The investment money continues to roll into the virtual and mobile care space. In the U.S. we now spend about $150 billion a year to treat simple primary care health problems, and many of those problems don’t require the hands-on attention of a physician.

Many of the telemedicine startups we’ve seen sell their service directly to consumers, but Portland, Oregon-based Bright.md offers a technology platform that medical groups can use to care for some types of patients remotely.

Your Grandpa’s Robot Helper Is on the Way.

Youngsters aren’t the only ones who get the latest high-tech gadgets. Sometime in the next decade or two, homebound retirees could be early adopters of an important new technology: the home-help robot.

As robots become safer, smarter, and more capable, robotics companies are eyeing elder care as a huge potential market. A rapidly expanding elderly population could also necessitate other new forms of home-assistance technology.

Why Quantum "Clippers" Will Distribute Entanglement Across The Oceans.

One possible future for communication is to create a quantum version of the internet that will have the ability, among other things, to send information with perfect security. This network will use entangled photons to transmit information from one locations to another without it passing through the space in between, hence the security.

Photons can only travel hundred kilometres or so through optical fibres before being absorbed. Conventional optical networks get around this with repeaters that boost the optical signal as it passes by.

Materials Trick Might Help Move Computers Beyond Silicon.

After decades of repeated reinvention, the silicon transistor is starting to show its age, and the industry is hunting for alternatives. One option involves a new way of manipulating the properties of a material that the computer industry already uses. If it works, it would lead to computer processors that are not only more energy-efficient but also capable of both computation and memory storage at once.
