News that a rocket exploded upon takeoff filled the airwaves as cable news broadcast endless loops of the spectacular footage.

The Antares rocket was being launched yesterday by the Orbital Sciences Corporation at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. Much of the coverage has focused on its payload that was supposed to be delivered to the International Space Station.

But the rocket was also carrying 26 Flock 1d satellites built by San Francisco-based Planet Labs. The company is creating a network of satellites (it calls them “Doves) to build a sophisticated Earth-imaging system.

Boards Aren’t as Global as Their Businesses.

There’s a growing consensus that companies need strong, independent boards full of qualified directors if they are to sidestep risks and seize opportunities in our complex and dynamic international economy. Being generally “impressive” is no longer enough—investors and corporate watchdogs expect a well-defined rationale for each appointment, an articulation of how the board member will provide meaningful oversight and counsel on critical issues.

Never Mind Software – Mobile is Eating the World.

It has been three years since Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, wrote his influential essay, “Why Software is Eating the World.” Nothing has changed since then to cast doubt on the ideas he presented.

One big change has occurred, though: The rise of mobile.

Now Andreessen’s partner Benedict Evans has issued an update. Evans presented his new study, “Mobile is Eating the World,” on Tuesday at the WSJD Live global technology conference.

Wranx Applies Spaced Repetition To B2B Learning.

U.K. startup Wranx is applying a learning technique called spaced repetition to the b2b space to help businesses train their staff more effectively.

This technique will be familiar to users of language learning apps such as Duolingo or indeed Memrise’s Cat Spanish. It basically refers to spacing out learning in order to help the brain remember better. And while this technique is increasingly common in the consumer apps space, Wranx reckons its spotted an opportunity to apply it to an underserved b2b space.
