Intel’s button-sized Curie module transforms any object into a smart, wearable gadget.

Intel showed off its plans to jump-start the wearable gadget industry with a new button-sized module called Curie during a keynote event at CES 2015 today.

The low-powered module can make things like jewelry, clothing, and other accessories into smart, wearable devices, Intel explained. Basically, anything that’s larger than a dime can now become connected when the Curie module is integrated. The module also includes Intel’s Quark SE SoC chipset, Bluetooth low-energy radio, sensors and battery charging, the company said.

Autodesk unveils Project Wire, software that may someday let anyone 3D print electronics.

Say goodbye to plastic tchotchkes. Voxel8 is now taking preorders for its electronics-making 3D printer developer kit. The preorder also kicks off availability of Autodesk’s electronics design software, Project Wire.

The new device prints PLA and conductive silver ink, the latter of which allows the printer to embed wires into a 3D-printed device. The technology is based on years of research by Dr. Jennifer A. Lewis, a Voxel8 founder and Harvard University professor.

German industry profits from globalisation.

Results from a recent study reveal German industry is one of the winners in globalisation, while France and the United Kingdom lag behind.

Partly due to its tight-knit global interconnection, German industry has benefited from globalisation. This is the result of a recent study conducted by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW) on behalf of the Federation of German Industries (BDI).

20 Questions You Can Ask to Validate Your Startup Idea.

Do you have a million-dollar idea in your head, just waiting to be acted upon? Or will it be a complete bust -- an idea with no actual potential for return?

This question is one that stops many would-be entrepreneurs in their tracks before they even take the chance and launch their potential business ventures. Fortunately, it is possible to make a more educated guess on your idea’s likelihood of success or failure by taking the time to validate your idea before moving forward with it.

Here are 20 questions you can ask to validate your startup idea -- before you commit significant time, money or other resources to its launch:

The Valedo Helps You Train Back Pain Away.

Scanning through the fitness- and health-focused wearables being presented here at the Unveiled event at CES, it seems that most essentially do the same things and are targeted at the same people.

There’s a ton of gadgets for tracking your heart rate and steps, perfect for attaining those six-pack abs and rippling legs or whatever it is people are looking to tighten up.

Among the sea of bands and pucks and straps offering those same features, I noticed a kind of silly-looking pair of plastic sensors that do something that lands a bit closer to home: they help you strengthen muscles involved with lower back pain.

2014 digital health investment exceeded total of three previous years combined.

Funding in the digital health space continues to accelerate as health care reform has put the spotlight directly on the shortcomings of the U.S. health care delivery system.

The digital health accelerator Rock Health tracks investment in the space, and has just released its fourth quarter and whole-year numbers.

On the top line, digital health funding in 2014 exceeded $4.1 billion, Rock Health said, a total greater than that of the past three years combined. The $4.1 billion total represents a growth of 124 percent over last year’s investment total.

Nvidia unveils ‘digital cockpit computer’ for car dashboards.

Nvidia announced its latest effort to become the visual computing provider for the cars of the future.

Jen-Hsun Huang, chief executive of graphics chip maker Nvidia, unveiled the Nvidia Drive CX platform at a press conference at the 2015 International CES tech trade show in Las Vegas.

Dashboards have become like the “jewelry of the car,” with big screens for rich turn-by-turn 3D navigation and gauges for fuel and speed.

“The subtlety of the glass and lighting comes out,” Huang said.

“We don’t offer just the chip, but the entire reference platform,” he said. “It’s an end-to-end platform, all the way
from processor to software.”
