ROLAND BERGER: Global Automotive Supplier Study 2014.

The global supplier market is booming, with the average EBIT margin in the industry set to reach an all-time high of about 7.5 percent 2014. The business of powertrain and tire suppliers is more profitable than most, with margins of 8 percent and more. But in the wake of the very good development, the pace of market growth in the supplier industry is expected to slacken in the coming two years, and the level of uncertainty in international markets is expected to rise even further. This is the result of the "Global Automotive Supplier Study 2014" jointly published by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and Lazard.

US giant buys Israeli company for Internet of Things tech.

Red Bend, an Israeli company responsible for nearly three-quarters of the wireless software updates for cell phones around the world, is being acquired by entertainment technology giant Harman, both companies said Thursday.

The deal is valued at $170 million, including approximately $99 million in stock and $71 million in cash.

Local Motors Looks to Disrupt Manufacturing with 3D-Printed Car.

At this year’s edition of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), going on right now in Detroit, I saw a few things I hadn’t seen in previous years. One was the presence of bomb-sniffing dogs, thanks to a suspicious package left across the street from the auto show that was later determined to be harmless by law enforcement agents.

19 proiektu elkartuko dira Brocante Teknologikoaren 2. edizioan.

MONDRAGONeko ekimenen esparruaren barruan, datorren 2015eko otsailaren 5ean Brocante Teknologikoaren 2. edizioa egingo da Arrasateko Garaia Berrikuntza Guneko ekitaldi aretoan

Ekimenaren interesaren jatorria egiaztapen bat da, hau da, baliabide ekonomikorik ez dagoelako, enpresa estrategia orokorrarekin bat etortzerik ez dagoelako, komertzializatzeko kanalik ez dagoelako… gure kooperatibetan garapen fase aurreratuan dauden hainbat proiektu etenda daudela, eta horiek stock teknologiko bat eratzen eta gauzatu gabe dauden negozio aukerak direla. MONDRAGONeko BACen ustez, beharrezkoa da lokartuta dagoen aukera multzo horri beste aukera bat ematea.

3-D Transistors Made with Molecular Self-Assembly.

A new way of building computer chips is taking shape that involves synthesizing molecules so that they automatically assemble into complex structures—which then serve as templates for etching nanoscale circuitry into silicon. The approach could let the computer industry continue to shrink electronics beyond the resolution of existing manufacturing machinery. IBM researchers have been the first to make speedy 3-D transistors using this new method.

Balancing Exploration and Exploitation.

Scholars have argued that companies can develop greater ambidexterity as they search for better ways to balance practices supporting optimal “exploitation” of existing opportunities and those promoting “exploration” of new ones.

Although much of the research on corporate ambidexterity has been focused on how companies can best achieve ambidexterity, less attention has been paid to how the cognitive processes of individual managers can shape performance on a broader level.
