iTraq: The Cellular Tracking Device.

iTraq is a cellular tracking device - the world’s first global location device that can be found anywhere. iTraq determines its location using cellular towers allowing iTraq to be located anywhere in the world where cellular service exists.

While creating iTraq we tried to overcome the disadvantages that similar devices on the market have. So, Why is iTraq better than similar devices?

A startup is betting more than half a billion dollars that it will dazzle you with its approach to creating 3-D imagery.

ogically, I know there isn’t a hulking four-armed, twisty-horned blue monster clomping in circles in front of me, but it sure as hell looks like it.

I’m sitting behind a workbench in a white-walled room in Dania Beach, Florida, in the office of a secretive startup called Magic Leap. I’m staring wide-eyed through a pair of lenses attached to what looks like metal scaffolding that towers over my head and contains a bunch of electronics and lenses. It’s an early prototype of the company’s so-called cinematic-reality technology, which makes it possible for me to believe that the muscular beast with the gruff expression and two sets of swinging arms is actually in the room with me, hovering about seven feet in front of my face.

Goldman Sachs leads $43M round in IT monitoring company ScienceLogic.

ScienceLogic, a company with software for tracking the health of companies’ applications and underlying IT infrastructure, is unveiling today a new $43 million funding round.

The Reston, Va.-based company has been around since 2003, so it’s not exactly the hottest new startup around. But ScienceLogic does have a major new investor to boast of: Goldman Sachs, which led the new round. Previous investors NEA and Intel Capital also participated.

The new money will give ScienceLogic the freedom to spend more on sales, marketing, geographical expansion, and further product development.

Biological Breakthrough: Researchers Succeed In Creating Human Egg And Sperm Cells In Lab.

For the millions of individuals who have undergone radiation treatments for cancer and other diseases, or for those who can no longer conceive, there is exciting news that may give new hope. Breakthrough research from the Weizmann Institute in Israel has, for the first time, succeeded in creating human ova (eggs) and sperm, the essence of human reproductive process, at their earliest stages in the lab. Dr. Jacob Hanna, together with his research student Leehee Weinberger, achieved a phenomenal feat in the world of cellular biology that could translate into baby-making in the petri dish in the not-so-distant future.

As California Drought Lingers, Tule’s Sensors Guide Crop Irrigation.

Californians have been using their garden hoses sparingly to help conserve water during one of the state’s driest years in history. But what if you’re a farmer with acres of crops that need irrigation to grow, and you learn that the state may curtail water supplies for agriculture?

Tom Shapland has been thinking about the challenges of farming since he was an undergraduate at U.C. Davis majoring in viticulture and enology—fancy words for growing grapes and making wine out of them. He says he quickly realized what really mattered to all farmers, even in years with normal weather.

“The bottom line is water,” Shapland says. “It determines the crop yield and the price per pound of produce.”
