Every year, 1 million people die from malaria, more than 4 million from respiratory infections, 3 million from intestinal infections and 5 million due to AIDS and tuberculosis. Also, other sexually transmitted and parasitic infections in tropical regions are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. Over 95% of these deaths occur in developing countries, as pointed out in the scientific articleDiagnostics for the Developing World, published in Nature Reviews in 2004. “Simple, accurate and stable diagnoses are essential to combat these diseases.
Some people tend to think of smart meters, solar panels, and energy audits in the same way they think about home improvements. But the owners of commercial property such as office buildings, shopping centers, and warehouses are taking a growing interest in renewable technology as a way to cut their electric bills.
In 1999, the music business was rocked — and not in the Ozzy Osbourne sense of the word — by the debut of Napster. The peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing service allowed Internet users to download songs and albums free of charge, upsetting the industry’s traditional business model. The casual theft of companies’ intellectual property (IP) became so widespread that the Recording Industry Association of America reported the legitimate sales of music fell by half, from US$14 billion in 1999 to $7 billion in 2014.

Drones have a vast range of potential uses in construction, real estate and elsewhere, but the devices themselves are still expensive and require experience to use safely and effectively. We have already seen a number of companies such as Kitsplit and Lumoid adding drones to their repertoire of rentable equipment for those who cannot afford, or do not need to purchase one outright. Now, DroneBase takes it a step further, enabling commercial clients to hire a local drone and an experienced drone pilot at the push of a button.
Medical researchers are constantly looking for ways to administer treatments to suffering patients in less painful and inconvenient ways. We recently wrote about the temporary tattoo which could provide a non-invasive alternative to diabetics’ daily blood tests. The Neulasta Delivery Kit is another such device which could improve treatment conditions — it is an on-body injector that can help ward off some of the side effects of chemotherapy by delivering pegfilgrastim to patients the day after their treatment starts.
