Renesas Electronics is launching a platform to accelerate the development of low-cost Internet of Things applications.
The Renesas Synergy platform is one more example of a big electronics company — in this case, a Japanese chip maker — creating its own platform that enables hardware, software, and services that deliver the Internet of Things (IoT), which makes everyday objects smarter and connected to the Internet. In this crowded market, rivals include everyone from Intel to Qualcomm. They’re all chasing an expected $1.7 trillion IoT market by 2020, according to market researcher IDC.
PowWow, a startup that specializes in technology like a tool detect leaks and help farmers keep track of their water usage, has raised $3 million.
PowWow uses a combination of data from aerial imagery, water energy records and other kinds of data, and then sends farmers text messages with updates if there is a problem. Those problems can be something along the lines of finding a leak.

Google ha presentado esta semana un nuevo proyecto con el que quiere dejar su impronta en las ciudades del futuro. Se trata de la compañía Sidewalk Labs con la que pretende "mejorar las vidas de millones de personas de todo el mundo" innovando en aspectos como el transporte o la eficiencia energética de los núcleos urbanos, según explicó el CEO de la tecnológica Larry Page.
