Protein drugs have become a critical part of healthcare. They attack diseases differently than old fashioned small molecule drugs, and have helped the biotech industry rise to prominence over the past few decades.
But proteins have their limitations. Many have to be taken frequently, or infused in hospitals, to work the way they should. Lessening that burden could provide a big convenience to patients, something a startup called Arsia Therapeutics is trying help out with.

With 2014 breaking all records for digital health funding, we entered 2015 wondering if the pace would continue. We shouldn’t have been doubtful—digital health funding in 2015 matched the total of 2014, surpassing $4.3B in funding. While skeptics may use the flatness of growth to question the attractiveness of the digital health industry, it’s important to keep in perspective what an incredible feat it was for 2015 to be on track with record-breaking 2014.
Funding to education-technology companies is booming. Overall, the period from 2010 to 2014 saw more than a 503% growth in investment dollars.
The pace has held high even in recent quarters. Financing grew from $911M in 2013 to over $1.5B in 2014, a 71% increase year-over-year. In the last four quarters, including Q2’15, ed tech startups attracted $1.9B, a jump of 68% compared to the previous four quarters.
Meanwhile, deal count has carried along steadily. There were 193 deals in 2014, up from 176 in 2013. However, at the current run rate 2015 will see a deal count of 158, well below that of previous years which indicates that deals are becoming fewer yet larger. Note: This data only includes funding to VC-backed companies in the Ed Tech space.
