La Universidad de Barcelona (UB) ha iniciado los trámites para revisar la concesión del título de doctor en Ciencias Sociales a Marc Guerrero, líder del sector liberal de Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya (CDC). La decisión llega después de que una comisión técnica de la universidad haya acreditado que Guerrero copió literalmente cuatro páginas de un libro, del que además se apropió de una “parte esencial de la estructura argumental”. El denunciante es Jaume Urgell, autor de la obra plagiada y contra quien Guerrero se ha querellado por injurias.

GV leads $40M Series B in Quartet, its first investment in a mental healthcare startup.

Quartet Health, a company that wants to close the gap between physical and mental healthcare, has raised a $40 million Series B led by GV (formerly Google Ventures). Existing investors Oak HC/FT Partners, F-Prime Capital Partners, and Polaris Partners also returned for the round.

This marks the first time that GV has invested in a mental health startup. Founded in 2014, Quartet’s platform make it easier for primary care doctors and mental healthcare professionals, like therapists, to work together. Many psychological conditions have physical symptoms (and vice versa), but they can be difficult to identify if a patient’s providers don’t communicate.

El Gobierno Vasco anuncia una nueva convocatoria del Programa Lehen Aukera.

El Gobierno Vasco va a estimular con 13 millones de euros la contratación de 3.000 jóvenes a través del contrato de relevo y el Programa Lehen Aukera.

Para favorecer el tránsito de la vida educativa a la profesional de una parte de la sociedad fuertemente castigada por la crisis, el Gobierno vasco puso en marcha en 2014 un programa de apoyo para que los jóvenes menores de 30 años con formación profesional, universitaria o con certificación profesional pudieran contar con una primera experiencia laboral relacionada con su titulación a través de un contrato indefinido o en prácticas.

Seattle Startup Group14 Technologies Targets Big Boost in Batteries.

A new Seattle materials company is developing a technology that could boost lithium ion battery energy density by up to 30 percent, it claims, while also reducing costs.

Group14 Technologies is a new spin-out from EnerG2, the 13-year-old Seattle materials company that has a growing business providing engineered carbon materials for other energy storage technologies, including ultra-capacitors and lead-acid batteries.

Blue Cross Invests in Hygieia, Partners on Diabetes Management Pilot.

Insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, in its quest for better and cheaper patient care, has formed a new partnership with Ann Arbor, MI-based startup Hygieia.

As part of the arrangement, Blue Cross will invest an undisclosed amount in the company, which has developed a digital insulin guidance system called d-Nav, and launch a one-year, 1,000-patient demonstration project with diabetic patients at Oakland Southfield Physicians, a healthcare provider network in Southeast Michigan.
