Se habían ya observado indicios de Proxima d ( se estaba intentando confirmar la existencia de Proxima b), pero entonces lo calificaron como «hipotético planeta» (ni siquiera como candidato a planeta). Fue necesario un estudio posterior para confirmar su existencia, que es lo que se publica ahora.
