How to investigate when a robot causes an accident, and why it's important that we do

Robots are featuring more and more in our daily lives. They can be incredibly useful (bionic limbs, robotic lawnmowers, or robots which deliver meals to people in quarantine), or merely entertaining (robotic dogs, dancing toys, and acrobatic drones). Imagination is perhaps the only limit to what robots will be able to do in the future.

Could Russian sanctions improve European auto manufacturing?

The impact of Russian sanctions on the European automotive industry continues to grow. Manufacturers with a strong presence in the region are already struggling to cope with the low availability of parts, as import-export rates squeeze Russia's material supply and inflate component costs. The conflict has damaged manufacturers' confidence not only in the Russian automotive industry but also in the industry's capacity to produce and export vehicles efficiently.

Russians start to see evidence of high military casualties in Ukraine

A phone camera pans slowly across the portraits of 55 men, each wearing the dress uniform of Russia’s elite airborne units. Small candles have been placed by the photographs of the men, as have sky blue berets and the blue-and-white striped undershirts worn by the paratrooper units who led Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Desperation amid food shortages in Shanghai as Covid lockdown bites

Stories of desperation are emerging in Shanghai as the city enters its third day of strict lockdown, with increasingly widespread reports of residents being unable to access food, medicine and other essentials.

The city’s Covid lockdown was extended indefinitely earlier this week after staggered restrictions failed to contain infections. City officials had promised the staggered lockdown would end on 5 April, leaving many residents of the Chinese megacity unprepared to be indefinitely housebound.
