La UE blinda sus fronteras con sistemas de reconocimiento facial solo para no comunitarios

La Unión Europea ultima la implantación de sistemas de reconocimiento facial en todas sus fronteras. Se usarán para recopilar los datos biométricos de los llamados ciudadanos de terceros países (los de fuera del espacio Schengen), a quienes hasta ahora solo se les tomaban las huellas dactilares, y contrastarlos en tiempo real con las listas de personas señaladas, tanto por las autoridades locales como por las comunitarias.

With new solar modules, greenhouses run on their own energy

Plants use light waves from only a portion of the spectrum for photosynthesis—the remainder can be recovered and used to generate solar power. That's the idea behind the solar modules developed by EPFL startup Voltiris. Following encouraging preliminary results, a new pilot installation was recently installed in Graubünden.

2D semiconductors could have notable advantages over conventional bulk semiconductors, such as silicon. Most notably, their greater resistance to short-channel effects could make them particularly promising for the development of highly performing transistors, which are crucial components of all electronic devices.

A silicon image sensor that computes

As any driver knows, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye—so when it comes to the camera system in autonomous vehicles, processing time is critical. The time that it takes for the system to snap an image and deliver the data to the microprocessor for image processing could mean the difference between avoiding an obstacle or getting into a major accident.
