For more than a decade Facebook, now known as Meta, has awarded fellowships to promising graduate students working on cutting-edge research. The prize, which this year comes with up to two years’ worth of university tuition and a $42,000 stipend, has gone to computer scientists, engineers, physicists and statisticians. Now it has gone to an economist. “I was not expecting it,” says Jaume Vives i Bastida, the lucky recipient working on a phd at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (mit).

L'activité du secteur privé en France a enregistré en août sa plus faible croissance en 17 mois, selon un indicateur publié ce lundi par S&P Global. L'indice composite de l'activité globale, qui mesure l'activité du secteur privé, s'est définitivement établi à 50,4 le mois dernier, contre 51,7 un mois plus tôt, précise l'agence d'information financière.
Dans ses prévisions publiées ce mercredi, l'Insee a revu à la baisse ses prévisions de croissance pour la fin de l'année. Le PIB augmenterait d'un modeste 0,2 % au troisième trimestre et l'activité stagnerait au cours des trois derniers mois de l'année. Grâce à l'intervention publique, l'inflation serait un peu moins forte qu'attendu.
