With the Future Homes Standard legislation coming into force in 2025, the UK heat pump market continues to see year on year growth. To support this demand, Vaillant has unveiled its new multi-million-pound heat pump production line at its headquarters in Belper, Derbyshire; making it the first manufacturer to produce both heat pumps and high-efficiency boilers in the UK.

Scientists discover a novel photophysical mechanism that has achieved record-breaking efficiency for organic photovoltaics

Organic photovoltaics (OPVs) are a promising, economical, next-generation solar cell technology for scalable clean energy and wearable electronics. But the energy conversion loss due to the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers in OPVs has hindered further enhancement of their power conversion efficiency (PCE). Recently, researchers from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) overcame this obstacle by inventing a novel device-engineering strategy to successfully suppress the energy conversion loss, resulting in record-breaking efficiency.

Velocity Composites enters US market with $100m GKN agreement

Leading aerospace composite material kits supplier, Velocity Composites has announced its entry into the US aerospace market with the signing of an agreement with GKN Aerospace expected to be worth more than $100 million of revenue over five years.

To support the expansion into international markets, Velocity Composites also announces the development of its first site outside of the UK, a 40,000ft2 advanced manufacturing facility near to the GKN site in Alabama.

Airbus and ArianeGroup to pioneer liquid hydrogen tech

Airbus and ArianeGroup, a joint venture equally owned by Airbus and Safran, and a world leader in space propulsion technologies, will work together to build the first liquid hydrogen refuelling facility for ZEROe aircraft at Toulouse, Blagnac airport. The station will be operational in 2025.

ArianeGroup will design, produce and support the operations of the liquid hydrogen fuelling system necessary for Airbus' ZEROe demonstrator as it embarks on its ground and flight test campaign - due to start in the middle of this decade.
