Nucor Signs Agreement with NextEra Energy Resources to Support Solar Energy Development in Kentucky

Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 250 megawatts of renewable energy from Sebree Solar, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. Sebree Solar is an innovative two-phase solar project in Henderson County, Kentucky, which will have a capacity of up to 400 megawatts of American-produced energy. The project's first phase – Sebree Solar I – is set to begin construction in Fall 2023.

Gunilla Saltin to join Tata Steel Nederland as Managing Director Downstream business and Board Member

Tata Steel Nederland has appointed Gunilla Saltin as Managing Director of the company’s Downstream business and a Member of the Board of Management, effective from November 1st, 2023. She is taking over this role from Tom Eussen, who became Managing Director Tata Steel IJmuiden in October 2022.

With Gunilla’s appointment, Tata Steel Nederland’s Board of Management expands to four members and consists of Hans van den Berg (CEO), Martijn Plaum (CFO), Tom Eussen (Tata Steel IJmuiden), and Gunilla Saltin (Downstream).  

ANDRITZ to supply new 6-high cold rolling mill to ArcelorMittal, France

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from ArcelorMittal, France, to supply a reversible 6-high cold-rolling mill for processing high grade non-oriented silicon steel strip (NGO) for use in electric motors.

The mill is able to produce light-gauge strip, which is in high demand to produce more compact, lightweight, and energy-efficient traction motors for e-mobility. It will be an essential part of ArcelorMittal’s new production complex for electrical steels at its site in Mardyck, northern France.

Continental announced a partnership with Google Cloud during its press conference at the IAA MOBILITY 2023. Together, the two companies are equipping cars with generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), making Continental one of the first automotive suppliers to integrate Google Cloud capabilities directly into vehicle computers. With this, drivers can interact with their car in a natural dialogue.

Marelli wins Altair Enlighten Award with its “Lightweight Urethane for Interior Products”

Global technology company Altair and the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), both based in Michigan, US, named Marelli a 2023 Enlighten Award winner in the Future of Lightweighting category for its “Lightweight Urethane for Interior Products”. The award ceremony was held on August 1st, as part of the CAR Management Briefing Seminars (MBS), an event focused on the future of the global automotive industry.

The latest numbers on the microchip shortage: Most cuts in Asia

Microchip shortages continued to trip up automakers in China and Asian markets outside of China. Assembly plants there made the lion’s share of production cuts to production schedules last week, according to the latest estimate from AutoForecast Solutions.

Asian factories outside of China eliminated 43,157 vehicles from their production plans due to shortages, while factories in China cut 19,669.

Globally, carmakers lost 67,541 vehicles because of inadequate supplies of chips, even as the semiconductor and automotive industries work to fix the problem.
