FORVIA to cut scope 1 emissions in Bavans and Seloncourt R&D centers

FORVIA, France’s first and the world’s seventh-largest automotive technology supplier has entered into two services contracts with Schneider Electric to fully electrify two FORVIA R&D centers in Bavans and Seloncourt, France, by mid-2024. Using an innovative Electrification-as-a-Service (EaaS) model backed by a best-in-class energy performance FORVIA will eliminate 85% of Bavans’ scope 1 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 100% of Seloncourt scope 1 GHG emissions with no upfront CapEx investment.

VITESCO TECHNOLOGIES COMMISSIONS LANDMARK SOLAR ENERGY PROJECT

Vitesco Technologies, a leading international provider of modern powertrain technologies and solutions for electromobility, commissioned a major solar sustainability project developed at its Seguin, Texas manufacturing plant. The project is believed to be unique in Texas representing a three-party power purchase agreement between Vitesco Technologies, San Antonio-based equipment provider Big Sun Solar and the Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC).

RISE will set the framework for AI and satellite imagery

Sweden's research institute RISE has been commissioned by the European Union's Satellite Centre (SatCen) to conduct a feasibility study. It will provide an overview of the potential of a common framework for artificial intelligence in applications based on satellite imagery data. The results will be presented at the end of 2024. The feasibility study will be produced within a public contract concluded with the SatCen and jointly financed by the European Defence Agency and the SatCen.

Optimal shipping carton utilization

Products ordered online are often shipped in oversized cartons. The size of the overall package is frequently much larger than its contents. For example, a fragrance bottle is shipped in a shoebox-sized package, which has padding to fill the empty space. This is not sustainable. Helping to combat this issue is the CASTN optimization software created by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, which puts together the optimum order-to-carton combination for each customer’s order.
