Does technology help or hurt employment?

Ever since the Luddites were destroying machine looms, it has been obvious that new technologies can wipe out jobs. But technical innovations also create new jobs: Consider a computer programmer, or someone installing solar panels on a roof.

Overall, does technology replace more jobs than it creates? What is the net balance between these two things? Until now, that has not been measured. But a new research project led by MIT economist David Autor has developed an answer, at least for U.S. history since 1940.

Universal brain-computer interface lets people play games with just their thoughts

This is not a video game fantasy, but a real program that engineers at The University of Texas at Austin have created as part of research into brain-computer interfaces to help improve the lives of people with motor disabilities. More importantly, the researchers incorporated machine learning capabilities with their brain-computer interface, making it a one-size-fits-all solution.

With this new line Xuong Giang Paper’s tissue capacity will reach up to 72,000 tons per year.

Autoliv Retires Repurchased Shares, Decreases Number of Issued Shares

Autoliv, Inc. (NYSE: ALV and SSE: ALIVsdb), the worldwide leader in automotive safety systems, today announced that as of March 28, 2024, the total number of issued shares of common stock is 86,126,221 of which 81,373,679 shares are outstanding. 

Autoliv retired 1,370,057 shares of common stock that had been repurchased during the quarter which resulted in a decrease in the issued shares.
